Eating disorder therapy includes a professional assessment that will
identify specific behaviors and personal experiences that may contribute
to eating disordered behavior. On the surface, eating disorders, such as
Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating, appear to be about food and
weight. However, they are serious medical and psychological illnesses,
and an assessment with an eating disorder specialist is crucial in
obtaining the most effective and safest treatment possible.

Eating disorder therapy  addresses the emotional experiences and
interpersonal relationships in a way that helps a person understand the
purpose of an eating disorder in one's life. This helps people develop the
capacity to express feelings with words and engage in life with meaning
and satisfaction.

The treatment is designed for a person to focus specifically on dynamics
that are brought up in their lives and incorporate solutions to manage the
eating disorder symptoms.  By using methods such as
Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, and Dialectical Behavior therapy, one will
have an understanding of how their thoughts impact their feelings.
Through individual therapy, one will be able to challenge their own
feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The goal is for a healthier, more
productive and realistic life, by learning skills such as how to be mindful
in the present moment, managing your emotions,  the use of healthier
coping skills, and becoming more effective in your personal relationships.

An eating disorder has manifested itself as a way to help a person cope
with their life in an unhealthy way.  To successfully let go of the eating
disorder, individual therapy works to integrate a personalized approach
to treatment from the very first assessment.

If you, or a family member is suffering from an eating disorder, the first
step is acknowledging the problem and realizing that help is available.
Therapy can help you to get to the root of the problem, to begin healing,
and to reach your personal goals.

I will help you develop a stronger sense of self, so that the eating disorder
is no longer powerful.
